Best Vegan and Vegetarian Date Spots in Bangkok

Eating plant-based in Bangkok used to mean a quick tofu stir-fry and a hopeful look at the menu. Not any more. The city now has a vegetarian tasting menu with a Michelin star, a vegan sushi bar with a cocktail list, and quiet garden dining rooms where nobody will ask you to explain your order.

That makes a vegan or vegetarian date easy to plan, whether you are both plant-based or just one of you is. Below are six places we like for a date, from a casual brunch to a special-occasion dinner. Opening hours change, so please confirm before you go.

1. Haoma: a vegetarian tasting menu for a big night

Area: Sukhumvit (Soi 31) · Budget: ฿฿฿ · Nearest station: BTS Phrom Phong

If you want to mark an anniversary or a milestone, start here. Haoma holds one Michelin star, and chef Deepanker Khosla’s modern Indian kitchen runs a dedicated vegetarian tasting menu alongside its meat and seafood menus. The format has been 10 courses lasting about two hours, so plan for a long, unhurried evening.

The restaurant sits at the far end of a quiet soi, and the setting feels a world away from Sukhumvit Road. It also earned a Michelin Green Star in 2022 for its sustainability work, which gives you something to talk about between courses.

Good to know: Dinner Tuesday to Friday, 5:30pm to 11pm, plus lunch (noon to 2pm) and dinner on weekends; closed Monday. Menu prices are not published and this is a top-end meal, so confirm the price when you book. Seats are limited, so reserve ahead. The walk from BTS Phrom Phong takes about 15 minutes, or five minutes by taxi. The restaurant is not fully vegetarian, and vegans should mention it when booking.

2. Golden State Vegan: sushi rolls and cocktails

Area: Sukhumvit (Soi 33) · Budget: ฿฿ · Nearest station: BTS Phrom Phong

For a livelier night out, Golden State Vegan pairs a fully vegan Californian-Japanese menu with a proper bar. Expect sushi rolls, small bites, burgers, tacos and noodles, then cocktails, margaritas, beer, wine or zero-alcohol cocktails from the Midori Music Bar. There is a DJ deck and occasional live music, and the room gets livelier as the night goes on.

It works well as a dinner-and-drinks stop in one place, which suits a first or second date when you do not want to plan a move halfway through.

Good to know: Address: RR Space, 3rd floor, Sukhumvit 33. Hours vary between noon to midnight and 11am to midnight depending on the day you check. Expect to spend under 500 baht a head. Book online or by WhatsApp.

3. Veganerie Concept: brunch, dessert and a park walk

Area: Sukhumvit (Soi 24) · Budget: ฿฿ · Nearest station: BTS Phrom Phong

Veganerie started as a vegan bakery and grew into a small Bangkok chain. Its Concept branch sits behind Benjasiri Park, which makes for an easy daytime date: brunch or cake first, then a slow lap of the park. The menu covers Western, Thai and fusion dishes, but the desserts are the reason most people come back.

Veganerie is useful for DateRoute’s other areas, too. It has branches at Baan Silom on Silom Road (Sathon/CBD), Tha Chang near the Grand Palace (Old Town), Sukhumvit 11 near BTS Nana, and near BTS Ratchathewi.

Good to know: Open 9:30am or 10am to 10pm, with last orders at 9:30pm, so allow for either opening time. Reservations go through Veganerie’s LINE account.

4. Na Aroon at Ariyasom Villa: a quiet garden dinner

Area: Sukhumvit (Soi 1) · Budget: ฿฿ · Nearest station: BTS Phloen Chit

Na Aroon is the restaurant inside Ariyasom Villa, a boutique hotel on Sukhumvit Soi 1. It cooks Thai food and serves no meat. The menu is vegetarian apart from seafood, which makes it a good compromise when one of you eats fish and the other does not.

The draw for a date is the calm. You get a slower, quieter dinner than on the busy stretch of Sukhumvit nearby.

Good to know: The kitchen serves vegetarian dishes and seafood but no meat, so strict vegetarians should ask what is cooked alongside the fish. Hours vary between 6:30am to 10:30pm and 7am to 10pm depending on the day you check. Call the hotel on +66 2254 8880 to check and book. Expect about a 10-minute walk from BTS Phloen Chit.

5. Plantiful: a relaxed daytime date

Area: Sukhumvit (Soi 61) or Phloen Chit · Budget: ฿ to ฿฿ · Nearest station: BTS Ekkamai or BTS Chit Lom

Plantiful is a plant-based cafe with juices, coffee and Asian-inspired dishes. Its original branch is on Sukhumvit 61, around a 10-minute walk from BTS Ekkamai. The second is on the first floor of Gaysorn Amarin on Phloen Chit Road, which links to BTS Chit Lom by skywalk.

It suits a brunch or late lunch date, especially if you plan to shop or walk afterwards. Try the pumpkin almond tart.

Good to know: Hours vary by branch. At last check they were Monday to Friday 8am to 9pm and weekends 9am to 8pm, though closing times have been earlier in the past. Check before you go, or call 091-715-5247.

6. Anotai: a long-running favourite near Rama 9

Area: Huai Khwang (Rama 9) · Budget: ฿฿ · Nearest station: MRT Phra Ram 9

Anotai has served vegetarians in Bangkok for more than two decades. The menu moves between Thai, Italian, Indonesian and Japanese cooking, with tofu and textured vegetable protein in place of meat, and the chef grows produce on her farm in Ratchaburi. Leave room for the house bakery, especially the pumpkin muffins and chocolate cake.

It is a quiet, low-key spot, good for a conversation-first dinner before heading on to Ratchada or Rama 9 for the evening.

Good to know: The address is 976/17 Soi Rama 9 Hospital. Open 10am to 9:30pm, closed Wednesday at last check, though it has also opened daily in the past. Please confirm hours before you go.

Tips for a plant-based date in Bangkok

  • Know the difference between vegan and vegetarian. Some places on this list serve dairy, eggs or seafood. If you are strictly vegan, say so when you book.
  • Look for the yellow “jay” flag. Thai vegetarian (jay) food avoids meat and animal products, and many street stalls fly a yellow flag during October’s Vegetarian Festival.
  • Ask about fish sauce and shrimp paste. At regular Thai restaurants, “no meat” does not always mean no fish sauce. Ask for “jay” or say you do not eat fish sauce (mai sai nam pla).
  • Group your stops. Three of these places are close to BTS Phrom Phong, so you can do brunch at one and drinks at another without a long ride.
  • Check hours on the day. Opening times change, so a quick call or a look at the venue’s social pages saves a wasted trip.
