First Date Ideas in Ari, Bangkok

Ari is one of the easiest places in Bangkok to have a first date. It sits a short ride north of Victory Monument on the BTS Sukhumvit Line, its leafy sois are walkable, and almost everything is small, relaxed and quiet enough to actually talk. If the conversation is going well, you can stroll to the next spot in a few minutes. If it isn’t, a coffee-sized plan lets you both leave gracefully.

Here are first date ideas in Ari that keep things low-pressure, from a morning coffee to an early evening drink.

1. Start with coffee at La Cabra Ari

Area: Old Town (Ari) · Budget: ฿ · Nearest station: BTS Ari (check the map pin for the closest exit)

A coffee date is the classic low-stakes first meeting, and La Cabra is one of the calmest rooms in the neighbourhood. The Danish roaster opened its Ari café in April 2023, in a space inspired by traditional tea houses and Scandinavian and Asian design, with lots of warm wood. Order a seasonal filter coffee and a pastry, and you have an easy hour to get to know each other.

If it clicks, pick up a bag of beans to take home. It’s a small, thoughtful souvenir from the day.

Good to know: 304 Phahonyothin Road. Open daily, 8am to 5pm. No table reservations, so weekend mornings can mean a short wait. Prices aren’t listed online.

2. Share a bowl of khao soi at Ongtong Khaosoi

Area: Old Town (Ari) · Budget: ฿ · Nearest station: BTS Ari, Exit 3

If coffee turns into lunch, walk to Ongtong for northern Thai curry noodles. It is casual, fast and cheap, and splitting a few dishes (khao soi, sai oua sausage, fried pork with green chilli dip) gives you something easy to talk about. Ongtong held a Michelin Bib Gourmand for several years. It no longer does, but it remains a neighbourhood favourite.

Good to know: Soi Phahonyothin 7, near Ari Soi 1. The street number appears as both 21 and 31, so search the name in your map app. Hours vary between 9am to 9pm and 10:30am to 9pm depending on the day you check. Khao soi was ฿89 to ฿109 at last check some years ago, so expect higher prices today. Check with the restaurant before you go.

3. Brunch and a show at People of Ari

Area: Old Town (Ari) · Budget: ฿฿ · Nearest station: BTS Ari or BTS Sanam Pao (check the map for the shorter walk)

People of Ari is a creative space with a 60-seat theatre, rooms that local performers can hire, and Yellow Lane, an Australian-style brunch café. An event gives a first date a built-in topic and takes the pressure off filling every silence. The October 2026 calendar includes yoga, sauna and breathwork sessions, and workshops.

Book brunch at Yellow Lane, then check what’s on the same day.

Good to know: 92/2 Phahonyothin Soi 5. Yellow Lane’s hours were 9:30am to 4:30pm at last check, but that was a few years ago. Ticket prices and opening hours aren’t posted. Check the venue’s upcoming events, or contact +66 61 421 6786 or contact@peopleofari.com.

4. Live Thai music at Bar Lookkrung Ari

Area: Old Town (Ari) · Budget: ฿฿ · Nearest station: BTS Ari (exact address not published; check the map pin)

For an evening first date, Bar Lookkrung leans into luk krung, the sentimental Thai pop of the mid-20th century. Live music fills any pauses, and the retro mood is a good conversation starter, whether one of you grew up with these songs or is hearing them for the first time.

Good to know: Open Tuesday to Sunday, 5pm to midnight, closed Mondays. Live music runs Wednesday to Saturday from 8pm, and Thursday sets may have been added recently. Call 082 114 6339 to confirm and to reserve. Prices aren’t published.

5. End with a glass at No Bar Wine Bar

Area: Old Town (Ari) · Budget: ฿฿ · Nearest station: not confirmed; Ari and Sanam Pao are both nearby, so check the map pin

If you’d like somewhere quieter for a final drink, this small wine bar has the right mood for a longer conversation. Order by the glass instead of a bottle and keep the night open-ended.

Good to know: 128, 10 Soi Phahon Yothin 2. Open Wednesday to Sunday, 6pm to midnight. Phone 099 229 7465. Prices aren’t published.

Tips for a first date in Ari

  • Keep the first stop short. Coffee or khao soi is an easy hour. If it’s going well, Ari makes it easy to add another stop.
  • Meet at the station. BTS Ari is easy to find, and Exit 3 is near the entrance to Soi Ari.
  • Watch the days off. Bar Lookkrung is closed on Mondays and No Bar Wine Bar is closed Monday and Tuesday, so an evening date here works best from Wednesday to Sunday.
  • Daytime cafés close early. La Cabra closes at 5pm and Yellow Lane at around 4:30pm, so plan coffee for the morning or early afternoon.
  • Have a rain plan. Every stop here is indoors, but the walks between them aren’t. Carry a small umbrella in rainy season.
