Halal-Friendly Date Spots in Bangkok

Bangkok has one of Southeast Asia’s deepest halal food scenes, from century-old Thai-Muslim kitchens on Charoen Krung to Lebanese dining rooms in Sathon and a certified halal dinner cruise on the Chao Phraya. Whether you keep halal yourself or are planning a date for someone who does, this guide picks six spots that work for a night out, across every budget.

One honest note before you go: “halal” can mean anything from formal certification to a Muslim-owned kitchen with no pork. Where a venue is described as certified, or serves alcohol, we tell you. Always confirm directly if certification matters to you.

1. Riverside Faraya halal dinner cruise

Area: Chao Phraya riverside (Asiatique) · Budget: ฿฿ · Nearest station: BTS Saphan Taksin, then the Asiatique shuttle boat

For a classic Bangkok date with no compromises, this is the easy win. Faraya sails a two-hour evening loop past the city’s lit-up temples and towers with a halal buffet on board. The food is described as certified by the Central Islamic Committee of Thailand, and no alcohol is served.

Good to know: Check-in is 4:00 to 5:30pm at Warehouse 3, Asiatique The Riverfront; the boat departs about 6:30pm and returns around 8:15pm. Prices vary by package, from around 1,200 baht per adult to roughly US$32 to US$36. On some dates through November 2026 boarding moves to the Riverside Bangkok pier (7:30 to 9:30pm) because of Royal Barge rehearsals, and the boat may have been paused for maintenance until 15 October 2026. Confirm your date and pier when you book.

2. Home Cuisine Islamic Restaurant

Area: Charoen Krung, Bang Rak (Sathon/CBD edge) · Budget: ฿ · Nearest station: BTS Saphan Taksin (about 15 minutes’ walk)

A small family kitchen tucked down Charoen Krung Soi 36, across the car park from the French Embassy. It’s known for Thai-Muslim dishes and biryani, especially khao mok gai (chicken biryani) and a slow-cooked mutton version. It pairs nicely with a riverside walk before or after.

Good to know: 186 Charoen Krung Soi 36. Hours at last check were Monday to Saturday 11am to 10pm and Sunday 6pm to 10pm, with khao mok gai at around 80 baht and mutton biryani at around 150 baht, but these details may have changed. Call ahead (02-234-7911) to confirm.

3. Al Saray Sathorn

Area: Sathon/CBD · Budget: ฿฿ to ฿฿฿ · Nearest station: not confirmed; check a map from the Silom/Sathon BTS stations

Al Saray’s newer branch is a two-storey Lebanese and Indian dining room with floor-to-ceiling windows, greenery and a mezzanine. It suits a dressier dinner: share hummus and falafel, then a mixed grill or lamb rogan josh. Its dishes are described as halal-certified.

Good to know: 27/1 Soi Phiphat 2, Silom. Hours vary (11am to midnight, 11:30am to midnight, or 11am to 11:30pm depending on the day you check), so confirm before you go. At last check, hummus was around 165 baht, lamb rogan josh around 399 baht and a mixed grill platter for two-plus around 1,799 baht. The menu includes cocktails as well as mocktails.

4. Charcoal Tandoor Fire Grill

Area: Sukhumvit (Soi 11) · Budget: ฿฿ to ฿฿฿ · Nearest station: BTS Nana (about 9 minutes’ walk)

Indian grill dishes cooked over charcoal in a dark-wood, copper-accented room on the fifth floor of Fraser Suites Sukhumvit. Think tandoori prawns, malai kebabs and biryani to share. It is described as fully halal-certified down to its spices and oils, but it also has a cocktail bar, so it is halal-food rather than alcohol-free.

Good to know: 5F, Fraser Suites, 38/8 Sukhumvit Soi 11. Daily hours are around noon to 3pm and 6pm to midnight, but opening times change, so reserve ahead. Expect roughly 900 to 1,500 baht per person.

5. Aisa Rot Dee

Area: Old Town (Bang Lamphu) · Budget: ฿ · Nearest station: none close; take a taxi or boat

A long-running Thai-Muslim coffee shop facing Wat Bowonniwet, a short walk from Khao San Road. Come for roti, beef satay, oxtail soup and khao mok gai, then wander the old streets of Bang Lamphu together. It’s ideal for a casual first date or a late lunch before an Old Town stroll.

Good to know: 178 Tanee Road. At last check it was open 9am to 10pm daily with dishes from about 40 to 60 baht, but we could not confirm current hours, prices or formal halal certification. Check before you go.

6. Krua Nang Phaya (Hayati Nang Phaya)

Area: Ratchathewi (Old Town to Ari zone) · Budget: ฿ · Nearest station: not confirmed

A casual halal Thai restaurant on Phetchaburi Soi 7, in the small Muslim neighbourhood around Darul Aman Mosque. It is described as fully certified halal with no alcohol. Try the nam prik (chilli dip) set or khao tang na tang (rice crackers with a coconut dip) and keep the evening relaxed.

Good to know: 403 Phetchaburi Soi 7. Hours vary between 10am to 9pm (closed the second Wednesday of each month) and 11am to 10pm daily depending on the day you check. Dishes were around 60 to 70 baht at last check. Confirm before you go.

Tips for a halal-friendly date

  • Ask about certification, not just “no pork”. In Thailand, halal certificates are issued by the Central Islamic Committee of Thailand. If certification matters to you, ask to see it.
  • Know which spots serve alcohol. Al Saray and Charcoal have cocktail menus; Faraya and Nang Phaya are alcohol-free. Pick based on your date’s comfort.
  • Plan around prayer times. Nang Phaya sits in the neighbourhood around Darul Aman Mosque, handy if you want to pray before or after dinner.
  • Book the cruise early. Same-day bookings may close at 2pm and tickets may not be cancellable or reschedulable, so lock in your date first.
  • Have a rain plan. All five restaurants here are indoor dining rooms, so they make good swaps if the weather turns.
