The Best Speakeasy and Hidden Bars in Bangkok for a Date
Bangkok's best speakeasies for a date, from a bar behind a gym locker to a cocktail room above a Chinatown restaurant. Finding the door is half the fun.

There is something about a hidden door that makes a first drink feel like a shared secret. Bangkok has some of the best speakeasies in Asia, from a bar reached through a gym locker to a cocktail room above a Chinatown restaurant. Finding the entrance together is half the fun, and it gives you something to talk about straight away.
Hidden bars change their hours often, so where details are uncertain we say so. Message the bar or check its social pages before you set out.
1. Opium Bar
Area: Old Town · Budget: ฿฿฿ · Nearest station: not confirmed
Opium Bar takes up the top two floors of a 120-year-old Chinatown shophouse, above the acclaimed restaurant Potong. You go in through the restaurant and take a small lift up. It ranks No. 25 on Asia’s 50 Best Bars 2026. It has nearly 50 cocktails and mocktails, four house-made gins, and a theatrical signature drink called the Campfire. Get there before sunset and the Yaowarat rooftops make a lovely backdrop.
Good to know: The address is 422 Vanich 1 Road, Samphanthawong. Hours are unclear: you may see Wednesday to Sunday, 6pm to midnight, or daily 5pm to 1am except Wednesdays, so call +66 82 979 3950 before you go. Cocktails range from about 300 to 2,300 baht.
2. The Key Room No.72
Area: Old Town (Ari) · Budget: ฿฿ · Nearest station: BTS Ari
This is a playful choice for a relaxed date in Ari. Ask the front desk at the Josh Hotel on Soi Ari 4 for a key, then find the hidden door behind an unmarked black wall. The ritual feels like checking into a secret room together, and the neighbourhood is full of cafes and restaurants for dinner first.
Good to know: It is open daily from 6pm to 1am, with a small deposit for the key. The deposit was 100 baht and cocktails around 350 to 380 baht at last check, but those figures are old, so expect them to have changed.
3. Philtration
Area: Sukhumvit (Siam end) · Budget: ฿฿ · Nearest station: BTS National Stadium
Philtration sits in the basement of a century-old former pharmacy on Soi Kasemsan 3, a short walk from Siam. You walk through a heritage compound, turn left and look for an antique medicine cabinet that hides the door. The cocktails draw on traditional Chinese medicine, which makes for an unusual menu to explore together.
Good to know: Hours vary between 6pm to midnight and 7pm to 2am depending on when you check, so plan to arrive early in the evening to be safe. The phone number is 09 2282 9005, and the walk from BTS National Stadium takes about five minutes.
4. Lennon’s
Area: Sukhumvit · Budget: ฿฿฿ · Nearest station: BTS Phloen Chit
For a special-occasion date, Lennon’s is on the 30th floor of Rosewood Bangkok. The lift opens into what looks like a record shop, and the bar is behind it. It has a big vinyl collection, skyline views and polished cocktails, and it is regularly named among the city’s best bars.
Good to know: The hotel gives the hours as 5pm to midnight daily, though you may also see a 6pm opening. The dress code is smart casual with closed shoes, and guests must be 20 or older. You can reserve online, on +66 2080 0030, or by email at bangkok.lennons@rosewoodhotels.com. The hotel connects directly to Exit 1 of BTS Phloen Chit.
5. #FindTheLockerRoom
Area: Sukhumvit (Thonglor) · Budget: ฿฿ · Nearest station: BTS Thong Lo
A Thonglor classic. Go down a narrow alley off Sukhumvit Soi 55, find the right gym locker and slide it open to reach an industrial-chic bar with sofas and a central counter. It is lively without being loud, and it still ranks among the city’s best hidden bars in 2026.
Good to know: Hours are 6pm to 2am daily, though closing time has also been given as 1:30am, so check if you are planning a late one. The phone number is +66 98 287 1898. It is about a 16-minute walk from BTS Thong Lo, so you may prefer a short taxi ride.
6. Abandoned Mansion
Area: Sukhumvit · Budget: ฿฿ · Nearest station: BTS Asok / MRT Sukhumvit
Abandoned Mansion is a gangster-themed speakeasy down red-carpeted stairs in the basement of the Montraj Coach Sukhumvit hotel on Soi 14. It is the pick for couples who like music with their martinis, because it has live jazz every night. It has been named the city’s best hotel jazz bar.
Good to know: Hours are 5pm to 2am daily (some days you may see a 5:30pm opening), with the first jazz set at 5:30pm and an open mic every Monday. It is about three minutes’ walk from BTS Asok. We could not confirm prices.
Tips for a hidden-bar date in Bangkok
- Book or message ahead. Many of these bars are small. A quick message helps you get a seat and confirm the hours, which change often.
- Dress the part. Hotel bars like Lennon’s ask for smart casual and closed shoes, and looking a little dressed up suits the speakeasy mood anyway.
- Pair it with dinner nearby. Opium Bar sits above Potong, Ari has plenty of restaurants near the Key Room, and Thonglor has endless options around the Locker Room.
- Take a taxi for the last stretch. Some entrances are down alleys that are hard to find at night. Share a pin and let the driver get you close.
- Bring ID. Bangkok bars commonly ask for proof that you are over 20.
